It’s a party and you’re invited!

My show is up at Village Gallery and I couldn’t be happier. The past couple of months have been a whirlwind of painting as I didn’t have much lead time. I’m proud to be exhibiting 14 new works.

The reception is this Sunday, October 12. In addition to my art, there’s an award show up at the gallery this month with a lot of wonderful pieces, and the other featured artist is a potter who is showing tons of cool stuff.

My painting from the Siren Nation opening is all finished and I delivered it to the buyer last week. The show, with my other painting (Goodbye Pretty) is still up through the end of October.

I also have a painting in the ICON show at People’s Art in Portland. This is an interesting show–very cool to see how different artists interpreted the theme. If you’re in the area, stop by and check it out!

I could get used to this

Live painting was so much fun! I enjoyed getting to talk with people as they stopped by my table. I got to catch up with several friends and met some new friends too! It felt like I spent most of the time talking but I managed to finish the painting I’d brought, Goodbye Pretty, and start a new one on my “extra” canvas. The new one sold during the silent auction.

The organizers did a wonderful job with the reception and a lot of people came out. If you missed it, the art will remain on display in the Olympic Mills building in SE Portland through October. Stop by and take a look!

Painting My Art Out

A while back I was invited to participate in Siren Nation’s event, Paint Your Art Out. I’ll have three pieces in the show that will be up through October AND I’m doing a live demo tonight at the opening reception! Did I mention it’s TONIGHT? There’s a high-pitched sound in the back of my head that sounds like a squeeeee of excitement and nerves.

I’m not so nervous about painting with an audience, but what’s extra challenging is that the painting needs to be finished tonight and will be auctioned off during the event. I’m taking a painting that’s already in progress, otherwise it would be hard to reach the finish line tonight. If you’re in the area, stop by and say hi and lend a little moral support!

My first live painting

Yesterday I met with three of my friends from the Green Cab group to paint outside Insomnia Coffee. This was my first time painting in front of other people and it was a lot of fun. Several people stopped by to see what we were up to and stayed to chat. I enjoyed talking about my art and hearing about everyone else’s process. Bad Influence Bunny is one of the paintings I was working on. People thought he looked like a grumpy grampa bunny who just quit smoking. I can see that!

Bad Influence Bunny, acrylic, oil pastel, colored pencil and ink on 20x16x3/4" canvas. $200.

The problem with pinks

pinks

I’ve been drawn to shades of pink lately when I look at paintings, especially abstracts. So here’s the first layer of a new painting, all in shades of pink. It resembles a large Valentine but I like it a lot. In fact, I like it so much that I’m having trouble painting over it!

It’s the little things

You may have noticed that my site now has a favicon. If you hadn’t noticed, check it out! The favicon is the tiny icon that appears as part of the browser tab. For mine I used the silhouette of one of my rabbits. I’m ridiculously excited about this. It’s such a small thing but it makes me feel like the site is more mine.

Curious Creatures

I recently found out that I’ll be the Featured Artist at the Village Gallery of Arts in Portland in October. I plan to exhibit all new work so I’ve been busy busy busy in the studio getting ready. Banjo is one of the paintings for the show and is also going to be the image on the postcard. I’m excited about the challenge of producing around 15 new paintings in this timespan.

Since I needed to submit a statement for the show, I revised mine and did a few other tweaks on this site. All of this is a work in progress that’s constantly getting fine-tuned.

At Insomnia

This is one of the paintings that’s hanging at Insomnia Coffee in Hillsboro this month as part of the Green Cab group show. It’s a cool place to be on a hot day! Lots of people have been hanging out on the funky mismatched furniture drinking iced coffees. I’m not a connoisseur since I don’t drink coffee, but they look delicious.

Inner Demons is a painting from early in 2013 and still one of my favorites. The main figure tweaks my mind in just the right way.

Koala girl

Here’s a painting I finished yesterday.

Kaleidoscope Koala, mixed media on 11x14" board. $90.

I’m very happy with the swirl of colors in her body and the way her little koala face emerged.

Two of my paintings are hanging at Insomnia Coffee in Hillsboro as part of the Green Cab group show there. And this is the last chance to see my solo show at New Morning Bakery in Corvallis. I’m heading down there on Sunday to take it down and spend the day enjoying the area. Corvallis is a great town and I’m looking forward to exploring more.
